We all spend more money than we should at some time or another, but for
some, constant buying sprees are an attempt to avoid deep-rooted,
troubling issues and can end up causing big problems in many areas of
their life.
- Do you immediately head for the shopping mall or pull up internet
shopping sites whenever you experience a setback or a disappointment,
or when you feel angry, afraid, or unimportant?
- When you’re spending money, do you feel an incredible euphoric high, along with feelings of anxiety?
- When you shop, do you feel like you’re doing something that’s dangerous, reckless, or forbidden?
- Do you spend a lot of time juggling credit card accounts and bills to accommodate your shopping habits?
- Do you stretch the truth about what you buy, how much you spend, and sometimes even hide purchases and receipts?
- Are your spending habits the source of real conflicts between
you and someone close to you (e.g., spouse, lover, parents, children)?
- When you dine out with friends or business associates, do you
almost always insist on picking up the tab--whether you can actually
afford to, or not?
- Do you frequently buy things using your credit cards that you know you would probably not buy if you had to pay with cash?
- After a shopping spree, do you feel guilty, ashamed, or confused about all the money you’ve just spent?
- Are you constantly thinking about money; how much you have, how much you owe, how much you wish you had?
- Do you go out and shop again no matter how much debt you are already in or how firmly you resolve to not spend more?
- Would you feel lost without your credit cards?
- Do you spend money on things you don’t really need, and often buy things that you never even wear or use?
- When you buy things for others, do you typically overspend in
an attempt to show them how financially well off you are or what
great taste you have?
- Do you lose track of how many deferred payment plans you’ve signed on to?
