picturesque coastal city of Port Hueneme, about halfway between Malibu and
Santa Barbara, in beautiful Ventura County. In Port Hueneme, you are surrounded
by beauty, peace and tranquility, encouraging the solitude and privacy needed to heal and refocus your life.
Ventura
County is perfectly suited for outdoor
recreation and is home to Channel Islands
and Ventura Harbors, launching points for
aquatic activities including sea kayaking,
whale watching, and SCUBA diving.
The southernmost
county of the Central Coast, Ventura County
is a fascinating amalgam of California
attractions. The region is home to stunning
beaches, sunny coastal cities, glorious wildlife,
and matchless recreational opportunities on
land and water alike.
Just 14 miles offshore,
the eco-system of Channel Islands National
Park makes whale watching out of Ventura Harbor
a uniquely accessible experience. It's not
uncommon for whale watching boats to find
themselves surrounded by hundreds of dolphins
of the Common, Bottlenose, and Risso varieties
as well as whales, seals, sea birds, and even
orcas. The five Channel Islands
off Ventura are home to over 100 species of
plants and animals found nowhere else on earth;
sea caves perfect for kayaking and diving;
and pristine beaches that hint at what California's
native ecology was once like. Gray whale watching
season officially begins December 26 and continues
through the end of March, as the Pacific Gray
Whale makes its six-thousand mile trek from
Alaska to the warm waters of Mexico. Visitors
to Ventura may see these majestic creatures
for themselves thanks to local boating companies
that offer both full- and half-day excursions
through the waters of Channel Islands National
Park.
